Today is the first day of the Esther Bible study.

ESTHER: WEEK ONE, DAY ONE

Esther 1:1-4 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

These events took place during the days of Ahasuerus, who ruled 127 provinces from India to Cush. In those days King Ahasuerus reigned from his royal throne in the fortress at Susa. He held a feast in the third year of his reign for all his officials and staff, the army of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the officials from the provinces. He displayed the glorious wealth of his kingdom and the magnificent splendor of his greatness for a total of 180 days.

Matthew 6:19-21 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

19 “Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I just bought this Bible:

It's the LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE HCSB e-book. I've decided to use it for all of my Bible study. Period. I can highlight it and take notes, then print them out for my reference later. So, I've been reading up on everything regarding Esther.1:1-4.

In Esther 1:2, we learn the setting of the story: Susa, which was the city of the royal fortress. Susa is now in modern day Iran and here is a link about the place:

The King was prideful and his possessions and wealth were what he showed off and flaunted--for 180 days or six months.

Pride always comes before a fall.

Often times, when we are prideful we do not turn from God.

Pride takes our attention off of God.

How is my pride? How much do I focus on money and possessions?

Matthew 6:19-21 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 forwhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Quit focusing on the things of this world. Focus on heaven and eternity instead.
