Morning
"These have no root."
Luke 8:13
My soul, examine thyself this morning by the light of this text. Thou hast received the word with joy; thy feelings have been stirred and a lively impression has been made; but, remember, that to receive the word in the ear is one thing, and to receive Jesus into thy very soul is quite another; superficial feeling is often joined to inward hardness of heart, and a lively impression of the word is not always a lasting one. In the parable, the seed in one case fell upon ground having a rocky bottom, covered over with a thin layer of earth; when the seed began to take root, its downward growth was hindered by the hard stone and therefore it spent its strength in pushing its green shoot aloft as high as it could, but having no inward moisture derived from root nourishment, it withered away. Is this my case? Have I been making a fair show in the flesh without having a corresponding inner life? Good growth takes place upwards and downwards at the same time. Am I rooted in sincere fidelity and love to Jesus? If my heart remains unsoftened and unfertilized by grace, the good seed may germinate for a season, but it must ultimately wither, for it cannot flourish on a rocky, unbroken, unsanctified heart. Let me dread a godliness as rapid in growth and as wanting in endurance as Jonah's gourd; let me count the cost of being a follower of Jesus, above all let me feel the energy of his Holy Spirit, and then I shall possess an abiding and enduring seed in my soul. If my mind remains as obdurate as it was by nature, the sun of trial will scorch, and my hard heart will help to cast the heat the more terribly upon the ill-covered seed, and my religion will soon die, and my despair will be terrible; therefore, O heavenly Sower, plough me first, and then cast the truth into me, and let me yield thee a bounteous harvest.

How encouraging is the thought of the Redeemer's never- ceasing intercession for us. When we pray, he pleads for us; and when we are not praying, he is advocating our cause, and by his supplications shielding us from unseen dangers. Notice the word of comfort addressed to Peter--"Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; but"--what? "But go and pray for yourself." That would be good advice, but it is not so written. Neither does he say, "But I will keep you watchful, and so you shall be preserved." That were a great blessing. No, it is, "But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not." We little know what we owe to our Saviour's prayers. When we reach the hill-tops of heaven, and look back upon all the way whereby the Lord our God hath led us, how we shall praise him who, before the eternal throne, undid the mischief which Satan was doing upon earth. How shall we thank him because he never held his peace, but day and night pointed to the wounds upon his hands, and carried our names upon his breastplate! Even before Satan had begun to tempt, Jesus had forestalled him and entered a plea in heaven. Mercy outruns malice. Mark, he does not say, "Satan hath desired to have you." He checks Satan even in his very desire, and nips it in the bud. He does not say, "But I have desired to pray for you." No, but "I have prayed for you: I have done it already; I have gone to court and entered a counterplea even before an accusation is made." O Jesus, what a comfort it is that thou hast pleaded our cause against our unseen enemies; countermined their mines, and unmasked their ambushes. Here is a matter for joy, gratitude, hope, and confidence.

Having no root, these believe for a while and depart in a time of testing. 14 As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit. 15 But the seed in the good ground—these are the ones who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring, bear fruit.

JOURNALING PROMPT: How can you stand united with everyone, without worrying about being politically correct and without watering down your beliefs, but allowing others to express their beliefs as well?

We live in a day when I am ashamed to be American, for we do not stand united. We are not fighting the true enemy. It isn't ourselves, it's terror. My question for myself is this: What am I going to do to take a stand? I'm not sure. But, I do know how to identify the correct enemy and not get sidetracked by talking points. ​

JESUS IS MY ONE WORD
Written January 11. 2015, Sunday
It's rather ironic how I started this year off with the one word of "FOCUS." It is precisely what I need. I need to focus my spirit, heart, mind, and actions (including my writing) so I live a more faithful life.
I realize that my true one word every year, including 2015 should be only one. Only One forevermore.
Jesus.
If I focus on Him, everything especially into its natural place.
Jesus is my one word. He is my life word.
Any others and I live a life and of wrongdoing.
Jesus.
Jesus should be my primary focus and passion. Nothing and no one else.

HONESTY ABOUT MY WRITING (AND MY WRITING PASSIONS)

The truth of the matter is this: I want to write everything and feel pulled to write several different things.
I have so many passions I want to write that it makes me realize one simple underlining truth:
I have no idea what to really write.
So, I'm sure thinking this:
1 Daily Thoughts (Non-Fiction, including Christian and Journaling Thoughts)
2 Short Stories and Novellas (Fantasy)
Then, I can lengthen things from there, if I feel so inclined.
I'm not sure if this is the answer or not. We shall see. Time will bring answers.

"Serve the Lord with gladness."
Psalm 100:2
Delight in divine service is a token of acceptance. Those who serve God with a sad countenance, because they do what is unpleasant to them, are not serving him at all; they bring the form of homage, but the life is absent. Our God requires no slaves to grace his throne; he is the Lord of the empire of love, and would have his servants dressed in the livery of joy. The angels of God serve him with songs, not with groans; a murmur or a sigh would be a mutiny in their ranks. That obedience which is not voluntary is disobedience, for the Lord looketh at the heart, and if he seeth that we serve him from force, and not because we love him, he will reject our offering. Service coupled with cheerfulness is heart-service, and therefore true. Take away joyful willingness from the Christian, and you have removed the test of his sincerity. If a man be driven to battle, he is no patriot; but he who marches into the fray with flashing eye and beaming face, singing, "It is sweet for one's country to die," proves himself to be sincere in his patriotism. Cheerfulness is the support of our strength; in the joy of the Lord are we strong. It acts as the remover of difficulties. It is to our service what oil is to the wheels of a railway carriage. Without oil the axle soon grows hot, and accidents occur; and if there be not a holy cheerfulness to oil our wheels, our spirits will be clogged with weariness. The man who is cheerful in his service of God, proves that obedience is his element; he can sing,
"Make me to walk in thy commands,
'Tis a delightful road."
Reader, let us put this question--do you serve the Lord with gladness? Let us show to the people of the world, who think our religion to be slavery, that it is to us a delight and a joy! Let our gladness proclaim that we serve a good Master.

"In my flesh shall I see God."
Job 19:26
Mark the subject of Job's devout anticipation "I shall see God." He does not say, "I shall see the saints"--though doubtless that will be untold felicity--but, "I shall see God." It is not--"I shall see the pearly gates, I shall behold the walls of jasper, I shall gaze upon the crowns of gold," but "I shall see God." This is the sum and substance of heaven, this is the joyful hope of all believers. It is their delight to see him now in the ordinances by faith. They love to behold him in communion and in prayer; but there in heaven they shall have an open and unclouded vision, and thus seeing "him as he is," shall be made completely like him. Likeness to God--what can we wish for more? And a sight of God--what can we desire better? Some read the passage, "Yet, I shall see God in my flesh," and find here an allusion to Christ, as the "Word made flesh," and that glorious beholding of him which shall be the splendour of the latter days. Whether so or not it is certain that Christ shall be the object of our eternal vision; nor shall we ever want any joy beyond that of seeing him. Think not that this will be a narrow sphere for the mind to dwell in. It is but one source of delight, but that source is infinite. All his attributes shall be subjects for contemplation, and as he is infinite under each aspect, there is no fear of exhaustion. His works, his gifts, his love to us, and his glory in all his purposes, and in all his actions, these shall make a theme which will be ever new. The patriarch looked forward to this sight of God as a personal enjoyment. "Whom mine eye shall behold, and not another." Take realizing views of heaven's bliss; think what it will be to you. "Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty." All earthly brightness fades and darkens as we gaze upon it, but here is a brightness which can never dim, a glory which can never fade--"I shall see God."

Christian! here is all thou canst require. To make thee happy thou wantest something that shall satisfy thee; and is not this enough? If thou canst pour this promise into thy cup, wilt thou not say, with David, "My cup runneth over; I have more than heart can wish"? When this is fulfilled, "I am thy God", art thou not possessor of all things? Desire is insatiable as death, but he who filleth all in all can fill it. The capacity of our wishes who can measure? But the immeasurable wealth of God can more than overflow it. I ask thee if thou art not complete when God is thine? Dost thou want anything but God? Is not his all-sufficiency enough to satisfy thee if all else should fail? But thou wantest more than quiet satisfaction; thou desirest rapturous delight. Come, soul, here is music fit for heaven in this thy portion, for God is the Maker of Heaven. Not all the music blown from sweet instruments, or drawn from living strings, can yield such melody as this sweet promise, "I will be their God." Here is a deep sea of bliss, a shoreless ocean of delight; come, bathe thy spirit in it; swim an age, and thou shalt find no shore; dive throughout eternity, and thou shalt find no bottom. "I will be their God." If this do not make thine eyes sparkle, and thy heart beat high with bliss, then assuredly thy soul is not in a healthy state. But thou wantest more than present delights--thou cravest something concerning which thou mayest exercise hope; and what more canst thou hope for than the fulfilment of this great promise, "I will be their God"? This is the masterpiece of all the promises; its enjoyment makes a heaven below, and will make a heaven above. Dwell in the light of thy Lord, and let thy soul be always ravished with his love. Get out the marrow and fatness which this portion yields thee. Live up to thy privileges, and rejoice with unspeakable joy.

Exodus 15:11
... I'm going to focus on Exodus 15:11​ (EXB) today.
There is no one and nothing like God.
Period.
I should focus on the ALL-powerful, ALL-knowing, EVER-present God at all times. He deserves nothing less.
And, He is not like any other god. For, when I do, He will bless me and my life. He will love me and will guide me. He will bring me love, peace, joy, etc.
What other God does this?
All other gods judge and do not bring love, peace, joy, etc.
My God does not need me to defend His honor. He can, and does, stand on His own.
His Word never changes.
Other gods' religious texts change and do not remain the same.
My God depends on no man.
Other gods do.
My God says to love your enemy and turn the other cheek. And, belief alone is all I need to go to heaven.
Other gods say to brutally murder and commit suicide in order to go to their heaven.
The false trinity of me, myself, and I cannot save me or give me eternal life. The false trinity is not all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present.
There is no god like my God.

THINK OF ALL THE RELIGIONS AND SPIRITUALITIES OF THIS WORLD
Think of all of the world's religions, spiritualities, and beliefs.
Whose god is like my God?
No one.
The others ask for death and/or need defending.
The other gods do not talk about loving your enemy.
The others do not offer unconditional love and joy.
The other gods did not die for their people.
The other gods do not offer heaven and eternal life through belief alone. Nor do they offer this because of unconditional love.
My God would never say to murder women or children or civilians.
My God would never say to commit suicide on His behalf.
My God can stand just fine on His own--and can do so without my help.
No other god gives their people joy--which is far more than happiness.
No other god offers blessings to their people. A blessing is a gift of unmerited favor--meaning I do not deserve one of His blessings. But, He blesses me immeasurably anyway.
I do not have to work for God's blessings. I just need to believe.
There is none like my God.
My God loves me even though I make mistakes all day long. And, He forgives me because I believe in Him and turn to Him and His Word.
My God only asks of me belief. That is it. That is the bottom line. I do not have to die by commit suicide or be killed by someone to go to heaven.
My God is love and He wants me to love even my enemy.
No. There is no god like my God.

What a veil is lifted up by these words, and what a disclosure is made! It will be humbling and profitable for us to pause awhile and see this sad sight. The iniquities of our public worship, its hypocrisy, formality, lukewarmness, irreverence, wandering of heart and forgetfulness of God, what a full measure have we there! Our work for the Lord, its emulation, selfishness, carelessness, slackness, unbelief, what a mass of defilement is there! Our private devotions, their laxity, coldness, neglect, sleepiness, and vanity, what a mountain of dead earth is there! If we looked more carefully we should find this iniquity to be far greater than appears at first sight. Dr. Payson, writing to his brother, says, "My parish, as well as my heart, very much resembles the garden of the sluggard; and what is worse, I find that very many of my desires for the melioration of both, proceed either from pride or vanity or indolence. I look at the weeds which overspread my garden, and breathe out an earnest wish that they were eradicated. But why? What prompts the wish? It may be that I may walk out and say to myself, In what fine order is my garden kept!' This is pride. Or, it may be that my neighbours may look over the wall and say, How finely your garden flourishes!' This is vanity. Or I may wish for the destruction of the weeds, because I am weary of pulling them up. This is indolence." So that even our desires after holiness may be polluted by ill motives. Under the greenest sods worms hide themselves; we need not look long to discover them. How cheering is the thought, that when the High Priest bore the iniquity of the holy things he wore upon his brow the words, "Holiness to the Lord:" and even so while Jesus bears our sin, he presents before his Father's face not our unholiness, but his own holiness. O for grace to view our great High Priest by the eye of faith!

Nothing gives the believer so much joy as fellowship with Christ. He has enjoyment as others have in the common mercies of life, he can be glad both in God's gifts and God's works; but in all these separately, yea, and in all of them added together, he doth not find such substantial delight as in the matchless person of his Lord Jesus. He has wine which no vineyard on earth ever yielded; he has bread which all the corn-fields of Egypt could never bring forth. Where can such sweetness be found as we have tasted in communion with our Beloved? In our esteem, the joys of earth are little better than husks for swine compared with Jesus, the heavenly manna. We would rather have one mouthful of Christ's love, and a sip of his fellowship, than a whole world full of carnal delights. What is the chaff to the wheat? We can review our communion with Jesus, and find no regrets of emptiness therein; there are no dregs in this wine, no dead flies in this ointment. The joy of the Lord is solid and enduring. Vanity hath not looked upon it, but discretion and prudence testify that it abideth the test of years, and is in time and in eternity worthy to be called "the only true delight." For nourishment, consolation, exhilaration, and refreshment, no wine can rival the love of Jesus. Let us drink to the full this evening.

Jesus died on that cross for me and my sins before I was even born. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. So, He died knowing how much of a lowly sinner I am and how much I deserve the death on the cross, not Him. He knew all about me as He died and still allowed me to be born and live.

"For me to live is Christ."
Philippians 1:21
The believer did not always live to Christ. He began to do so when God the Holy Spirit convinced him of sin, and when by grace he was brought to see the dying Saviour making a propitiation for his guilt. From the moment of the new and celestial birth the man begins to live to Christ. Jesus is to believers the one pearl of great price, for whom we are willing to part with all that we have. He has so completely won our love, that it beats alone for him; to his glory we would live, and in defence of his gospel we would die; he is the pattern of our life, and the model after which we would sculpture our character. Paul's words mean more than most men think; they imply that the aim and end of his life was Christ--nay, his life itself was Jesus. In the words of an ancient saint, he did eat, and drink, and sleep eternal life. Jesus was his very breath, the soul of his soul, the heart of his heart, the life of his life. Can you say, as a professing Christian, that you live up to this idea? Can you honestly say that for you to live is Christ? Your business--are you doing it for Christ? Is it not done for self- aggrandizement and for family advantage? Do you ask, "Is that a mean reason?" For the Christian it is. He professes to live for Christ; how can he live for another object without committing a spiritual adultery? Many there are who carry out this principle in some measure; but who is there that dare say that he hath lived wholly for Christ as the apostle did? Yet, this alone is the true life of a Christian--its source, its sustenance, its fashion, its end, all gathered up in one word--Christ Jesus. Lord, accept me; I here present myself, praying to live only in thee and to thee. Let me be as the bullock which stands between the plough and the altar, to work or to be sacrificed; and let my motto be, "Ready for either."

Death is all around.
My cat, Kara, has breast and lung cancer. And, she is also elderly.
My beagle, Zack, turns 15 in a couple of weeks.
I have a grandmother who is getting up there in years.
A blogger I read is dying from cancer.

Our days are numbered.
We all could die--snap of my fingers--now.
This is news this morning... The headline reads:

A LACK OF FOCUS
1011 a.m.
My one word for 2015 is "Focus." I frown. Shake my hear as I realize how small minded, unfocused, all-over-the-place I am in my mind. Already, I am proving how unfocused I am. It's Day 7 and I don't think I have made any improvement whatsoever.
How have I applied "Focus" to my life so far in 2015? I am not sure I have.
I am already thinking about focusing on this blog, not on my RYP Journaling blog. But, I will post a daily prompt and daily journaling thought. So, I stopped focusing on one thing to exchange it for another. Is this for God's glory? Is this His will and not mine? I am not sure at this point.
Lord, guide the small-minded, death deserving sinner that I am.
I read MORNING by Spurgeon today about living for Jesus Christ. I had to do some household chores, get ready, etc. I did them and just sat down to journal and focus on the Word of God and on Spurgeon when it hit me. I did not think of Jesus or the Bible once as I did all of that.
Sigh.
I do not like how shallow I am at times. Lord, forgive me and my small, unfocused mind. Teach me to focus on You alone and on Your Word.
Now that I have acknowledged my inadequacies, and how I did not focus on living for Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, my Rock and Redeemer, my King and Friend, I am going to try again.

HOW AM I (OR MIGHT I BE) FOCUSED?
1019 a.m.
I say how unfocused I have been in 2015, which is quite true. However, I also have had moments of absolute clarity of focus and a single minded focus. The problem is how those are short lived. (Lord, show me how to change this and to focus all the time on You and the Bible. Teach me. Guide me.)
The moments of clear focus have been how I have been led by You to read the Bible through, cover to cover, the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation in 2015. Also, with how I am to focus on Reverend Charles H. Spurgeon, particularly his MORNING AND EVENING devotional. Hence, I feel led to read nothing but the Bible and the writings of Spurgeon this year.

MAYBE LEAD A SPURGEON BIBLE STUDY ONE DAY? 
Then, as I did the household chores, something came to me: "Stacy, you're moving. You will look for a new church home when you do. You want to be fed, and need to be fed, but what about doing a study (or studies) on Spurgeon? What about taking a group of ladies through MORNING AND EVENING over the course of a year? And, what about his other writings? Do you know of any such study in the Church? In any church? Alas, I do not. 
Questions that come to mind: How could it last a year and why would anyone want to do it for a year? And, is there enough material to do for a year?
Answers: The problem with the church today is I think we are either trying to do too much in Bible study, aren't doing nearly enough, aren't doing it at all, or it's extremely quick and shallow and dumbed down and watered down to the point there is little to no substance and then we wonder why people are leaving the churches and are not going to church. 
Also, because of this Bible reading and study method, whatever it is we do nowadays, we are not left changed or transformed. We are not set apart as a church, or as Christians, form the rest of the world. We have succumbed to the world, afraid to rock the boat, or are too lazy to do so. Our Bible readings and studies reflect this. The fact our churches are not open from sun-up to a few hours past sundown prove this is the case. Our churches should be open, and a hub of activity from six in the morning or so to ten o'clock at night, with no lull in-between. 
So, what about doing a Spurgeon study, who had over ten thousand go hear him speak on several occasions, from 1853 to 1892? 
I think I'm in. 
Bible reading cover to cover in a year + writings of Spurgeon = a recipe for a different kind of faith that will surely stand out in this 2015 world.

MY WRITING
I keep trying to write and be published. Over and over. And, I haven't been successful. I have been all over the place and haven't been focused. ​
So, other than a daily journaling prompt and thought on my RYP Journaling blog, I think I'm going to stop writing. I think I will stop claiming to be a writer for a bit. 
Stop. No. that's not it. Scratch that. Let me get more specific and straight to the point. Rather...
I am going to focus on the Bible and the writings of Spurgeon this year. This is my focus. This is how I want to live. This is what I want to write and journal. Period. End of story. The end. What comes from it, come what may. It will be all of God, not of me. To Him be the glory forever and ever. 
I will journal and write about how I am trying to live a focused, set apart life that is different than this world and all of its standards (or lack thereof). 
I will focus on being in Him and in the Word. 
I will focus on living a faith like Spurgeon from that late 1800s in today's 2015 world.

Well, I didn't read any of the devotional yet, for I wanted to look at this verse first, in my more modern version of the Bible, and in an older version. And, far more importantly, in the version Spurgeon read. And, version that could help expand on understanding of the verse.

Spurgeon read from the KING JAMES VERSION of the Holy Bible. Sometimes it can be the most difficult to read and understand. After all the English then is not the English used today--and there is a big difference even today between the English's English and American English. Nevertheless, I think in this instance, the King James Version the best and easiest to grasp.
Life is Jesus Christ. 
Living is living a life in Him, for Him, of Him, by Him, with Him, etc. This is life. 
Death is gain, for I will then be with Him for eternity. That being said, I live for eternity today, through living Christ today--not tomorrow. It's living Him alone. I have eternal life in Him now and this is how I am to live today. This is living life at its best and fullest. 
To live is Christ.

WAITING
1240 p.m.
I have found that life is full of time in the waiting room--waiting for something to happen, for time to pass, for a certain date, and/or for an answer. 
This is true with me right now as my husband and I wait for things to line up for us to purchase a house and move across the country to our final destination in Wyoming. We are waiting for those answers, for things to happen, and far more importantly for God's direction. After all, everything is in HIS timing. Thank God. For, His timing is perfect--just as His plans are also perfect. 
As we are in this waiting room, we wait. But, it does not mean we are just passive. Although, there is room for that as well. All of life takes both being and doing--often times at the same time. This is the best spiritual life, the combination of being and doing at the same time, in tandem. 
As we wait, interest rates keep dropping. For well over two months now, they have been lower than my dad has ever seen. And, today, it just dropped to a percentage we never thought we would see: three percent, with paying down some points. Three percent. to You be the glory, Lord! 
If we would have proceeded in our timing, we would have paid around three point seven-five percent. The waiting room is always the best place to be. For, God is working in, around, and through everyone and everything regarding the situation. We are out of His way, if we are in the waiting room. 
So, what so we do while we are in the waiting room and are waiting for something or someone? We cling to Jesus Christ and the Word of God, the Bible. Period. That's it. This is everything. 
What do we do if we are not in the waiting room? The same thing.
We are to live Christ. Jesus Christ.

We are going through a cold snap here in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Brrr! The humid cold is a killer, if you ask me. I like the cold. But, I have discovered after moving here how there is a major difference between the dry Midwest cold the humid cold here. right now, the real feel temp is 20 degrees and it will reach you deep in your bones. 
Now, let me focus on Jesus, not on the cold.

MY NEW DEVOTIONAL​

On January 01, in the morning, I started reading Charles Spurgeon's MORNING AND EVENING in an email sent to me and I even purchased the e-book and an audiobook therefore. Then, I decided to buy myself a copy I could hold in my hands--as I go through this monumental year (with moving, buying our first and last home as a married couple and the house we want to die in, and my husband starts his new job). So, I bought one online and had it sent to my house.
I finally got it yesterday in the late afternoon--and it's beautiful. It's a medium brown leatherette and isn't too big or too small. The same goes with the font. 
So far, I've highlighted and taken notes on three pages (both of yesterday's and this morning's devotionals) and am finding the size perfect and am finding it rewarding to be able to look at it throughout the day and hold it in my hand. It makes it more real, meaningful, and delightful to read and apply to my life. 
This morning's devotional has been speaking a great deal to me and I am glad to have time to think on it and start to implement it in my life. 
I am noticing a trend with Spurgeon's writings, though, and it isn't just in the MORNING AND EVENING devotional. The trend is this: I might as well underline and highlight every word he writes. Every words he wrote and/or uttered packs a powerful punch and are surely meant to get your attention--in a very good way. 
I will read the evening version in a few minutes. First, I want to tell you about the other thing I am expecting to receive today that I ordered online.

WAITING TO RECEIVE MY NEW BIBLE

I decided I also want a Bible to hold in my hands, interact with, and enjoy each day, like the MORNING AND EVENING devotional by Spurgeon. After all, I want to read the Bible all the way through this year, cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation. It's in an effort, like with MORNING AND EVENING, to mark this monumental year. It's meant to make a memory and make me live as intentionally as possible. 
So, like yesterday, I play the waiting game as I twiddle my thumbs and grow antsy waiting--wondering when I will hear the doorbell ring so I can go running to the door, peak out the door, see if the truck is there. If it is, I open the door, view the package, open the storm door, holler "Thank you," to the back running away from me, heading to the truck, getting a wave in response, and then I grab the package. I will then carry it to the counter to open, and Sinan Orange Maine Coon cat will appear and will undoubtedly help me open the package as he grows excited for the empty box, which he thinks I bought just for him, after he offers the new item a good sniff, mind you. I ask him if it meets with his approval and know it does when he turns to the box, which I set on the floor at that point. I give him until the next morning to play with the empty box. If it is a better size, or is in better shape than his last box, I get rid of the old box. If not, I get rid of the new box. 
I then open the new book and put my name and the date on the front page and then look at the rest of the book.
This is my habit and tradition, along with the cat's. It's been years in the making. When we move, the tradition will continue, just in a new house, and in a new kitchen. In which, he will try to tell me he has a new massive basement we could fill with boxes, for he wouldn't mind, he would say. (Uh-no.)
So, here I sit, imagining the moment with the new Bible. 
Silly, maybe?
No. It isn't. 
I want to wear out this Bible I use it so much. I want to do the same with the MORNING AND EVENING. I want to be forced to put it on the shelf before either one completely fall apart. 
I want my Spurgeon 2015 journal to turn into a Spurgeon 2015, 2016, 2017, etc. blog journal. 
Want to live a late 1800's faith. Pure. Simple. Not of this modern world. After all, Spurgeon, to me, is like the Christian equivalent of Shakespeare. His writing is beautiful and carries deep meaning. Moreover, I am forced to think as I read his writing.
So, couple my daily Bible reading with the writings of Spurgeon and this year should be a year to remember. That is a guarantee, provided I focus.
Now, I will start my going to the front door, opening it, looking down to see if they just didn't ring the door, stare at the empty front porch with disappointment, head back to the study and wait routine. 
Sigh.
Can't wait!

SO FAR WITH MY NEW BIBLE

It's the "WOMEN'S SANCTUARY DEVOTIONAL BIBLE NLT."
It's purdy (pretty) with its teal and brown ink. 
The daily devotional readings to read the Bible in a year are set up in days, not dates or numbers. So, it's taken me a bit to figure out how or where to start. I decided that since today is Wednesday, I will start with the second Wednesday of the Bible and of the reading year. And, I have read up to here this year anyway. 
I've read the first devotional reading and I need to admit my mouth gaped open when I read it. 
It's about waiting.
Hah! That's already what I wrote about earlier today! God is so good. 
God's waiting room is part of His plan in my life at times. This includes right now as we wait to buy a house, close up the chapter here in Virginia, move to Wyoming, and start life anew there. 
The devotional Bible then reminds me of something very important for me to remember and live: The Bible is full of direction to help me live a life of Christ today.

WELCOME: AN INTRODUCTION TO "A YEAR WITH CHARLES H. SPURGEON."

I've decided to focus all of my reading this year on reading the Bible from cover to cover, as well as to reading the works of Charles H. Spurgeon. 

Why?

I'm tired of garbage in, garbage out in my life--in my mind and in my heart.

I want to take my faith to a new level.

I want to live the faith of the ages, not today's faith. I want to focus on the Word of God, on prayer, on giving thanks, and following Jesus Christ. 

I do not want to live a modernized, watered down, washed-up, dumbed down, simplified to the point of having no substance--faith. 

I want to live the faith that makes people want to know what makes me different--not a faith that makes me one with this modern world so I am not set apart. 

I do not want to be one of those that turn people away from God and Jesus, rather than to them. 

This is the story of my journey in trying to do precisely that.
