​Idea for Tetrad: Four Blood Moons: A Writing Notebook or Journal for a Novel and Camp NaNoWriMo

On March 21, 2015, I read how there was a total solar eclipse the previous day. How did I not know this? I wondered and then thought about my life over the last month with moving across country, and living with a relative as hubby and I wait to find a house. Yeah. That is how I didn't know. Interesting. I usually am well aware of astronomy events and news. Huh.

Then, I saw this article:

And this got me to thinking, even in spite of my crazy life right now, I should do Camp NaNoWriMo in April. Tetrad is a good idea for a book and possible series.

Maybe 15,000 words for Camp NaNoWriMo?

So, yes. I'm going to try Camp NaNoWriMo.

Every journal entry I do is a prayer journal (pj), a blessings journal (bj), and just a regular journal. However, sometimes, I will focus on different aspects in a journaling entry. This entry will be focused on prayer journaling in particular.

Zack was having dementia a couple of minutes ago. Thank God, it's calmed down. (694)

Lord, keep it calmed down and help him relax.

Abba, please guide me. Tell me what YOU want me to write. Everything seems to work for a while, then it changes and I get a fire for something else. Why? Is it my lack of focus? Is it me not obeying You? Show me the way, Lord. Please. 

What would my ideal book be? What has God equipped me to write? (I look up and pray, Lord? Pause. My voice trips off...)

Journaling plus history plus family tree (genealogy) plus fiction plus journaling how-to plus faith-based and prayer and blessings based equals ideal book.

Yes. Those are all of my passions rolled into one. That fits and sounds right.

This is a blog series about writing your story of fiction. It is your writing notebook for your latest book.

You have a choice. You can read and do one of these each day and take a year to write your book.

Or, you can do multiple days and write that book in the time you choose.

READING SEGMENTS

1 a day = 1 year = 365 days (or you write 1 book in a year)

2 a day = 6 months = 182.5 days (or 2 books in a year)

3 a day = 122 days = 3 books in a year

4 a day = 91.25 days = 4 books in a year

6 a day = 61 days = 6 books in a year

12 a day = 31 days = 12 books in a year

EACH DAY

Each day will have two segments:

1 CRAFT: Something to do with inspiration and craft of writing. This is the how to write and why you write portion.

2 BOOK: Something to help you write your book. This is the hot-to write your specific novel portion.

How is NaNoWriMo Day 4?

How is your NaNoWriMo novel and Day 4 coming? In other words how are you doing? How is your writing? What do you think of your novel?

Is your novel starting to take shape yet?

Are you stressed already? If so... Remember it's all about the journey. This matters more than anything else. 

Just write. Who cares if you make your daily word count? Just write.

If you write your novel, and focus on that, the word count will fall into place. And, the worst case scenario is you don't get 50,000 words in November. But, guess what? You could get 50,000 words in December or January, for instance. 

If your novel is going well... Well, why? What are you doing that seems to work? Can you replicated it later? 

Keep on keeping on. Keep the faith. Just remember the story of the rabbit and the turtle. Persevere.

NaNoWriMo Day 2: Writing Tips/Hints and a New Perspective of a Journey

Well, it is Day 2 of NaNoWriMo and I am loving every bit of it! I hope you are as well.

There is something quite fulfilling to watch words add up on the blank white page--knowing that the combination of words have never been written before, except by me--in that moment. It is quite a spiritual journey and increases my faith. 

How about you? Is NaNoWriMo a stress component for you--or is it a journey?

Isn't it amazing how a different perspective changes everything? The way we look at things can have a negative or positive impact on us and on our lives. 

So, enjoy the journey and make sure to journal about it at the close of your day each night. It will be well worth it. I promise.

Day 1 of NaNoWriMo

Well, today is the 1st official day of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).

I need to write 2,000 more words of my Christmas historical fiction novel and then I will hit today's word count goal of 3,000 words on my NaNoWriMo novel: Jamestown Passage.

Yes, today, I will finish writing "A Complicated Christmas." It's the first in the Oak Haven Series about a Virginia town in 1813. 

I just got done with my Quiet Time and am ready for the madness to begin! Woo-hoo! 

So, how are you? Are you ready for the NaNo madness (craziness)? Are you ready to write or type until your fingers go numb? Naa-haa-hah! Yep. Madness. 

But, talk about a fulfilling madness. Today is the first day to learn more about you as a writer--even if you've been one for years. Make sure not to allow the word count goal to get in the way of seeing this as the journey it really is. Take time to remember this very sweet truth.

WWWWW, an H, and a WI Questions (NaNoWriMo Hints and Novel Writing Hints)

Whether you have your book planned or not, it is good to ask questions about your novel. Ask who, what, where, when, why, how and what-if questions about everything you can think of and write them down on the page. I actually recommend doing this weekly so you can see how your book is coming, where it went, and where it is headed.

Some questions might appear to be the same. But, answer them again anyway, even if it is the same answer. It can stir something up in you and give you another idea or cement the one you already have.

Here are some sample questions:

~ Who is in the novel?

~ What is the novel about?

~ What is the theme of the novel?

~ What is the conflict in the novel?

~ What is the motivation of the hero?

~ What happened?

~ What do you smell in the novel? See? Taste? Feel/touch? Hear? 

~ Where does the novel take place? 

~ When does the novel take place?

~ Why is this story being told (novel being written)?

~ Why is there conflict in the novel?

~ Why does the hero do what they do?

~ Why did the novel start the way it did?

~ Why did the novel end the way it did? 

~ Why did it happen? 

~ How did the story happen?

~ How are the characters growing in the novel?

~ How did the novel begin?

~ How did the novel end? 

~ What-if something different happened in the story?

~ What-if there was more to this story?

~ What-if there was less to this story?

~ What if the story started in another scene?

~ What-if the story ended in a different way? 

~ Write any more questions you can think of here. (I recommend cutting and pasting these questions into a new document and then add some of your own.)

Those are very basic questions. But, here is a more in-depth twist. Ask each of those questions about:

~ Each of the three acts of your book

~ Each chapter

~ Each scene

~ The hero/heroine

~ Each character 

~ Each page

~ Each paragraph

NaNoWriMo: How can it be only 7 days away?

NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, begins on Tuesday, 01 November 2011. That's seven days from today, as you well know.

I cannot believe it is coming up so quickly. I do not know about you. 

That means I have 44,100 words to write of my, "A Complicated Christmas" novel between now and then. This makes me want to chew on my nails--and I never do any such thing. There are too many germs there (and I am hardly a germ a-phobe) and it is bad for one's teeth.

I will keep you updated about my progress at my historical fiction blog listed below. It's the top link. 

Now, I am nervous about NaNo. How about you?

Book Cover and other preparations for novel writing

It does not matter where you are in your preparation for your novel for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). There are a few steps to always take when you are coming up with an idea for a novel. You might want to grab a journal and go through each of these points one by one.

1 What is the title of your novel? (Even if it is a temporary one.) 

2 What genre is it? 

3 What is a sentence summary and hook for the book?

4 What is a two-sentence summary for the book?

5 What is a four-sentence summary for the book?

6 What is a paragraph summary for the book?

7 What is a two-paragraph summary for the book?

8 What is a three-paragraph summary for the book?

9 What is the back cover (one-page) for the book?

10 Design your front cover. 

11 Start to make an outline.

12 If you have the time, expand your outline and include more subpoints. 

Type and print all of the above out and carry with you at all times for inspiration.
