//// SOAP Bible Study on July 27, 2014, Sunday, 504 p.m. /// James 1:1-4 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) /"1 James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ: /To the 12 tribes in the Dispersion. / Greetings. / 2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing." / -- Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) / Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers, Nashville Tennessee. All rights reserved. /// Scripture: / Lord, James called himself a servant. But, he wasn't just a servant to just anyone. He was a servant of both God and was a servant of the Lord Christ Jesus. / He wrote to the twelve tribes of and in the Dispersion. And James offered them greetings. /// Observation / He introduces himself. He is James and is a servant. / What is a servant? / What is the Dispersion? / 'To' shows how this is a letter. / Who are the twelve tribes of the Dispersion? / Why did he write to them? / I bet he called himself a servant in part to show he may have held a position in the church, but he still counted himself as lowly. He was a servant. I also bet he said servant of God and Jesus to remind himself of this and to show the importance of this concept in his life. / What is a normal greeting? /// Application /// Prayer
