Romans 1:3-6 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

3 concerning His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh 4 and who has been declared to be the powerful Son of God by the resurrection from the dead according to the Spirit of holiness. 5 We have received grace and apostleship through Him to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations, on behalf of His name, 6 including yourselves who also belong to Jesus Christ by calling:

I am also going to share about life, the world, and the news in the middle of this study so we have context of these and the Bible reading. They go hand in hand.

Lord, help the bird that just ran into the window. 1015 a.m.

I just got sidetracked taking pictures of our cat Sinan, lounging on in a recliner.

~*~

My husband, B, and I just had a worship moment.

Me: "Have you seen the photo released by NASA for the 25th anniversary of Hubble?"

B: "No."

I showed it to him. We both stared at it in awe, then read the accompanying article about the picture.

Me: "Amazing. God's glory and all its splendor. Not created out of randomness or chance combinations. Not out of chaos. That screams order."

B: "And Creator."

He reached for his cell and opened a Bible app.

He then quoted,

Genesis 1:1-9 New Century Version (NCV)

1 In the beginning God created the sky and the earth.2 The earth was empty and had no form. Darkness covered the ocean, and God's Spirit was moving over the water.
3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.4 God saw that the light was good, so he divided the light from the darkness. 5 God named the light "day" and the darkness "night." Evening passed, and morning came. This was the first day.
6 Then God said, "Let there be something to divide the water in two." 7 So God made the air and placed some of the water above the air and some below it. 8 God named the air "sky." Evening passed, and morning came. This was the second day.
9 Then God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered together so the dry land will appear." And it happened.

Genesis 1:14-19 New Century Version (NCV)

14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to separate day from night. These lights will be used for signs, seasons, days, and years. 15 They will be in the sky to give light to the earth." And it happened.
16 So God made the two large lights. He made the brighter light to rule the day and made the smaller light to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17 God put all these in the sky to shine on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw that all these things were good.19 Evening passed, and morning came. This was the fourth day.

B: "Note verse 6 and remember how at the end of the article it talked about the portions in the cluster of hydrogen and oxygen, which are the two parts of water. Verse 6 supports this and we see it in action in the universe, explained in the article. The universe proves God and the Bible.

"Then look at verse 14. God is screaming out and showing His glory and that He is God, if only we pay attention, listen, and believe. The proof of God is right there. He has given us the universe as a sign and to explore so we can have a reminder of the vastness of God and His creation."

Me: "Amen."

B: "Then, there are those who believe in aliens of the space variety. Need I mention how God created man and woman in His image, not aliens."

He then referred to this passage:

Genesis 1:26-27 New King James Version (NKJV)

26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

And, this was the article I found a few minutes later proving his point, here at this link:

A CLOSER LOOK AT ROMANS 1:4

Written 04.25.2015, Saturday, 622 p.m.

What exactly does this verse mean?:

Romans 1:4 New King James Version (NKJV)

4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

In order to gain as much understanding as possible, I start with cross-references:

2 Corinthians 13:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

4 For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.

Jesus lives because of God's power.

The next power phrase doesn't make sense to me. Lord, help me to FULLY grasp and understand Romans 1:4 and the previous verses and the following, including this next cross-reference:

Ephesians 1:15-23 Expanded Bible (EXB)

15 That is why ·since [or because] I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all ·God's people [T the saints], 16 I ·have not stopped [never cease] giving thanks to God for you. I always remember you in my prayers, 17 asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you ·a spirit of wisdom [or spiritual wisdom; or the Spirit of wisdom] and revelation so that you will know him better. 18 I pray also that ·you will have greater understanding in your heart [L the eyes of your heart may be enlightened] so you will ·know [comprehend] the hope to which he has called us and that you will know ·how rich and glorious are the blessings God has promised [the riches of his glorious inheritance for; or the glorious wealth of an inheritance that God possesses in] ·his holy people [T the saints].19 And you will know that God's power is ·very [exceedingly; overwhelmingly] great for us who believe. That power ·is the same as [or was demonstrated in] the great strength 20 God ·used [exerted] to raise Christ from the dead and ·put [L seat] him at his right ·side [L hand;Ps. 110:1; Acts 2:34] in the heavenly ·world [realm; places]. 21 God has put Christ ·over [far above] all rulers, authorities, powers, and ·kings [lords; dominion], and every other ·title given [L name that is named] not only in this ·world [age] but also in the ·next [coming one].22 God ·put [subjected] everything under his ·power [L feet; Ps. 8:6] and ·made him the head over everything for the church [or gave him to the church as head over all things], which is his body. 23 ·The church is filled with Christ [or The church completes Christ; L …the fullness of the one], who fills ·everything in every way [or all things everywhere; L all in all].

Side-Note: This is one of my favorite passages of the Bible. Huh. I should add Ephesians 1:15-20 a few times each week.

The power verses are 19-20.

Ephesians 1:18-20 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

18 I pray that the perception of your mind may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.
20 He demonstrated this power in the Messiah by raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand in the heavens—

Amen!

Lord, now, looking back at Romans 1:4, I should have more understanding. Power. Resurrection power. Got it.

Romans 1:4 Expanded Bible (EXB)

4 But through the Spirit of holiness [C a Jewish way of referring to the Holy Spirit] he was ·declared [or designated; appointed] to be God's Son with great power by rising from the dead [C though eternally the Son of God, Jesus was appointed such "with power" at his resurrection; see Ps. 2:7; 110:1–2]. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thank You, Lord, for helping me grasp this verse with deep meaning.

I want to read and keep re-reading this prayer journal entry and allow it to keep sinking in.
